| Post by Spencerman I just thought that we better have a flip side to the things that we hate thread. What is it that you like most about your model guns. I have to say that one of the things that I like, and it is a shame that it is not every model gun, is the calibre. I love the fact that in general a 9mm gun uses 9mm cartridges, a .44 uses .44, and a 5.56mm uses 5.56mm. It is much better than an M16 or AK looking gun that fires an 8mm round. For me, part of the fun is seeing that great big shell case fly out of my gun, on the rare occasion that it works! I also love the fact that they are not uber loud. You can fire them indoors without turning yourself deaf. It is also a shame that they are not so loud, but overall, I consider that a plus point. You???? _________________ | |

| Post by Mark Yes, i too, like the idea that you can fire them comfortably inside without getting the police involved. _________________ Wanted to buy: MGC Sten MK3....trades?(still)

| Post by Claymore for me it has to be a gun running well on full auto, to own a thompson or sterling or mp40 and be able to fire with no stoppages and watch the rounds flying everywhere and get that noise only full auto brings, well thats what brings a smile to my face and makes the loading and cleaning of rounds worthwhile | |

| Post by MadMike For me it is the realism and the details most modelguns offer. As you know I am quite keen on the AR-15, maybe I have been growing up with too many war movies or 1980's Reforger excercises in the German woods, I don't know.
When Airsoft became available here in Germany after 2003 I had to get a M4A1 carbine. I could not put it down until I found reviews about the Marushin XM177E2 on the internet. Well, I ended up buying the kit, putting it together (with a lot of help from Mark, ModelguncollectorUK and other forum members) and I was so fascinated about the internal mechanism that I started to dislike the Airsoft AEGs with their springs, gears and motor.
I was sure the XM177E2 would be my only modelgun, but I have never been so wrong. I am owning quite a collection now and I am still very happy about them all. I learned a lot about firearms in general and the M-16 series in special.
I have a G&P M4A1 Airsoft rifle as my latest gun. It looks great, full metal, nice dull dark grey finish, realistic plastic parts, realistic Colt markings, good shooting performance. I like it. Anyway it is just a placeholder until my dream can get true and I can get me a HobbyFix M4A1 ...
For me modelguns are exactly my cup of tea as they are very realistic copies of real firearms. Even better, they are totally safe. I like studying and handling them in quiet hours after a busy day. I don't mind that they can't shot any projectile. There is nothing worth to shoot at around my house anyway ... _________________ "It's a hardball world, son. | Being able to buy a working and accurate replica of a WW2 MP40 was a boyhood dream come true. I'd always yearned for one, in the same way I always just wanted a German Steel Helmet. Like MadMike said I guess I grew up in a time when War films and TV series' were more common and socially acceptable. To be able to have one that strips and performs like a real one, that I could fire indoors making just enough noise to bring a huge grin to my face with shells flying and that loverly smelling smoke proved addictive and fantastic fun. I actually enjoy the preparing and cleaning, possibly because I have the luxury of having somebody else to do it for me but I always have enjoyed talking anything mechanical apart, learning exactly how they work and reassembling them. I thought my MP40 would be the only one but like MadMike, how wrong I was! I've got the Bug well and truly. Airsoft is OK, but those AEGs make strange whirring noises and look nothing like a gun internally. GBB can be good as long as slides and bolts move as they should but nothing comes close to a modelgun gor me. Since the Mother in Law went, I've nothing worth shooting at now either I'd like a good Blank Firing MP40 (well, any decent MG really) but cost, noise levels and a shortage of somewhere to fire one make modelguns all the more attractive. If only I could find a decent metal PFC MP40 Cerwyn _________________ Hobby collector of mainly WW2 era uniforms, headgear, field equipment and replica weapons.

| Post by ricks 1. Decent reproductions. 2. Full-auto 3. Noise 4. SMG's at a fraction of the real steel price, albeit "Big Boy Toys." _________________ Rick | |

| Post by John Firstly, I like every full metal modelgun for its realism of weight, cold feeling and metallic sound. The Wa Shan modelguns of native black or silver colour even look better, though I also like all the golden ones.
Secondly, I like to collect the rare and out of production models like the VP70, Woodsman, Baby Browning. And those once famous modelguns makers like CMC, Suzuki and WA, etc.
3) I like the real size of the models such that I can swap the grips for the real guns. In particular, the real wooden grips would add so much realism and noble feeling to the modelguns. The rubber grips like those from Hogue and others are also great add-on to replace the original ABS ones. You could also get more customisation by adding different types of scope, torch or laser things to some models with rails.
4) I like to build modelgun kits. It gives me so much sense of achievement in the end. And I can also learn so much of the internal mechanism of the real gun. I particularly highly recommend the Marushin P-08 metal kit. The LS kits bring you back the good old memories.
5) They are 100% safe as there is no projectile nor firing (I cannot use cap here).
6) Last but not least, the modelgun history! Though it is just half century old, there are so many interesting stories behind, e.g. the rise & fall of MGC, the first Japanese modelgun, the laws, the different cartridge systems, the SRHW, the modelgun famous people, etc.

| Post by Doc I`ll second what John has put here , I`m more interested in the early guns , the history of the modelgun makers ..I like some of the later models because of their accuracy but I also am very fond of early models because of the odd way they were put together .

| Post by 8ace The one thing I LOVE (not just like) about modelguns is..................... I bit of background.. I'm an amateur collector of militaria which can demand authenticity, of the items I collect, but during my internet searches of (deactivated weapons) I came across modelguns....and thought they are just toys (some expensive toys ) But..... I purchased an Marushin M16 kit to see how good these things are...... and now I’m hooked I wouldn't say I’m an expert and I have only owned 9 models from various makers and……. thanks to you forum members that I have had the pleasure to handle/work-on/fire your own collection (and meet yourselves) which brings my total modelgun fondling to about 15-20ish. UK Deactivated guns are great......... But. Modelguns are....better Yes I know the debate about authenticity and such goes on... But I don’t care anymore...... MODELGUNS FOR ME | |
