MGC Sterling help

Hi All
I have a MGC Sterling in really great condition but it has a few problems.
The folding stock does not stay under the barrel, anybody got a close up pic of the catch that I am obviously missing,
also the selecter switch is really loose and I'm not sure why ?
The bolt is also cut (but I can get a replacement)

Thanks to Cerwyn for posting the expanded diagram of the Sterling I managed to take the handle off I undid the screw holding the selector switch on and noticed it was not fully engaged into a slot, so pushed it in and tightend the screw and all was good.

I'm still not sure what to do with the stock though, I wonder if anybody has a spare or broken stock (tall order i know) that has the locking mechanism still attached ?

Does anybody know for instance if a real sterling folding stock would fit the MGC , Ken said the Ashai Sterling stock may fit ?

There is no plug, (well not the one you showed) in the barrel
The barrel seems to have a solid block of steel machined into the end so will not allow any gasses to go down the barrel.
Not sure if this is normal or not ?
I am purchasing an asahi sterling stock off of Francky, I should be able to modify it to fit or at least use parts to repair mine.

If the solid plug in your barrel will allow a Detonator Pin to be fitted, you might still be able to fire caps. It's a big IF though and we definately need the advice of someone that knows what's possible now
Is it possible to modify one of MGC's Dummy Stirlings to fire The bolt could be swapped but can the Det. Chamber and Barrel be reworked to accept a Det. Pin and cycle cartridges Did MGC cut, drill, grind anything else to make conversion a definate No

Blocked barrels in models like MGC Thompsons still allow a Det. Chamber and Pin to be fitted. They fire a treat, all you lose out on is a smoking barrel.

Ordered the stock from Francky on the 8th and it arrived in the UK today (10th) hows that for service !

For future reference the Asahi sterling stock is an excact duplicate of the MGC part, right down to the tooling marks.
Only difference I can see is the colour (the Asahi looks more greeny grey than black)) and the metal does seem to be a bit softer.

I only swapped out the broken part any way and as I did so I noticed that there were a couple of spacers missing (either side of the spring) which could have constituted to the catch breaking in the first place

Good news that Asahi stock fits ... he's also showing a MGC Sterling Barrel and Detonator Chamber in stock now. That could solve your cut chamber problem at a stroke

Yes, Thanks to you and Ken giving me the heads up on that this morning I contacted Francky and asked him to do me a deal on those and a detonator pin aswell

Well the barrel, chamber and new detonator pin arrived today

All fitted and looking good, only thing left to get is the bolt and PFC's which I cannot afford at the mo because I'm all spent out

New to this Forum and just wondered if you managed to get it firing??? I have the chance of buying a 'dummy' MGC Sterling (through my UKARA membership), but just wondered how easy it is to still get a bolt and chamber etc?? All the links on here appear to be dead now. I have a few GBB steel BB guns, AEG Airsoft's (you need those for UKARA ideally!) and Blank guns too (Forum won't allow me to post pics of those yet), but I'd like to increase my collection with an MGC Sterling. A dummy is ok for the price, but potential to fire PFC's a bigger plus!

I would imagine making parts like that would involve a lot of heavy lathe work, which I don't have access to or the relevant skills to hand, or quite smply the time to execute. I'm a Truck Driver, so long hours etc. I may wait and see what Gunstar or Milweb throw up within the next few months. The going rate for a firing version is about £600-£800 I believe?? I'll sit on my cash for the time being and see what comes up. I did have a Marushin UZI up to about 7 years ago (I sold it for £120). What a pratt eh!!

Regarding the links in this thread, there were some 'clickies' reffering to a 'Francky' or some such similar. They just lead to an Ebay link now for a shampoo...or so I got!!

Francky moved out of Japan some time ago, and no longer trades modelguns as he did in the past.
He sometimes had spare parts available on Gunbroker.com, I am not sure if he still does.

There is a fair amount of lathe and milling work required to make a bolt and chamber. Depending on the price of a dummy version, it may be cheaper to buy a firing version.

As smootik says, Francky no longer has his modelgun business in Japan. I haven't checked gunbroker for some time but I have seen Francky's lists of gun accessories and various spare parts on Japan Yahoo Auctions recently. 
I'll have to work my way through the forum's pages and delete links to Francky's Japanese site. Thanks for letting me know    

Hi Cerwyn - the price of the dummy was £350. That one on MG Props (some lovely stuff on there!) looks much better though and has obviously been well looked after. I think if it's still for sale in Jan, I might have a go. If I spend that sort of money before Xmas, my missus will have a pop. I could probably get away with the £350 for now, but £750 is pushing it a bit for now. I'm serious though, i want one. So I'll be sticking around!
