Came as a pleasant surprise - Tanaka decided to release metal M1 Carbine again very soon (hopefully Feb~Mar) - from their old CMC molds but this time with improved mechanism for better firing action...and comes with American Walnut woodstock/oiler/sling belt - shall be ¥65,000 more or less...

This should be worth waiting for, sounds like Tanaka are putting a lot of effort into getting this carbine looking and performing well

65000 JPY is just about £500 Sterling

Price is still decent for a large, metal rifle model like this one. It will be "a bit" more after shipping&taxes of course.

I'm glad there is a new release :-)

Tanaka is carrying on with their "evo" theme - making their guns a bit more stronger & firing better Very Happy ...finger-cross for this one to be released by March (I got both old & new type CMC M2 Carbine and even a fragile Marushin GBB M2 BUT never a semi-auto M1 Carbine).

Will compare with both old & new type CMC M2 Carbine sooner or later...but first impression - wood is weaker than CMC & the shaping of the cocking handle needs more attention...otherwise people have been hungered for this for so long so all's forgiven Wink ...

What we didn't get from previous versions:

Tanaka M1 Carbine Repro (Metal) 270220112238
Tanaka M1 Carbine Repro (Metal) 270220112241

2 Markings stamped on the walnut stock - believed to be some US Army stamps...

Then what I mean by badly made cocking handle -

Tanaka M1 Carbine Repro (Metal) 270220112243

It seems both CMC & early Tanaka did a better job...

The cocking - the new rotating bolt requires you some strength to pull the bolt back: so I don't buy what Tanaka claims this time the firing action will be smoother than previous versions (the bolt much harder to pull than the CMC)...but I'll cock it more to see if it will somehow loosen up...

CMC did already have the rotating bolt type although the straight bolt was more common.

Yes I got both early & late type CMC M2 Carbine as well and CMC's rotating bolt isn't as stiff as this Tanaka scratch ...

Also it is the bad surface finish (buffing) of the cocking handle which looks like crap metal that got me (the image couldn't show it clear enough)...

M2 shall be on the way...
