So I recently inherited this firearm and I am going to sell it. Really not sure exactly what I got, so I had a few questions. When I unscrew the barrel, what is the little silver thing that pulls in and out? (In pictures) I was going to try to sell this and Im located in the USA, is it not recomended to sell a gun like this outside of the country? Im not sure what this gun is worth at all, maybe you guys have some ideas? If anyone is interested in this gun on here make an offer:) Otherwise I plan to put it on ebay sometime this week. The gun appears to be in great shape. Bolt and everything else operates smoothly.
Thanks guys!
Robert

Hello Hevishot, welcome to the forum Very Happy

It amazes me how often these MGC68 MP40s turn up as inherited items or found in attics and lofts, I wish I was that lucky Exclamation

The silver plug you asked about replaces the detonator pin fitted in the chamber. These Modelguns were originally designed to fire cap charged brass cartridges that simulate firing. These are 1:1 scale models of real guns and do not fire any form of projectile. They are not Firearms in the true sense at all.

The majority of modelguns exported to the USA were further modified by the factory rendering them incapable of firing or even cycling cartridges. These were intended as Display or Prop models only.
The silver plug is the first clue, the boltface will likely be ground at 45 deg to stop the bolt being able to push cartridges from the magazine.

see: https://mp40modelguns.forumotion.net/t1832-non-firing-model-cut-bolts-and-firing-versions-in-pictures

There may well be one or two holes drilled through the barrel nut, going straight through the trunnion and chamber. Some models had a 1/4" slot cut along the length of the trunnion too.

Have a look at the category specifically for MGC68 MP40 on the main index page, there are several topics covering the above in detail which should hopefully give you a clearer picture of exactly what you have there.
Anything you're not sure of, please feel free to ask.

I hope this answers some of your questions
