Actually - I KNOW that it can be done but just want to know if it's difficult.

I have some Marushin mags (30rounds) on it's way to me. One of them will be needed in an exhibit and also some filming where it has to be loaded (completely) with 5.56 dummy rounds. Therefor, the piece of metal that guides the shorter modelgun cartridges, has to be removed. - making place for the dummy rounds.

Now - is this a big operation?

Can the mag just be "clicked" open and then the metalpiece taken out? Or is the mag and the piece melted in place?

I guess I can always find a way to cut it out if it's melted fast. But the most important is that the mag can be closed shut again.

How does this work?

Thanks

I take it that you cannot use a real magazine? I believe that all you would have to do to that to make it fit the marushin is make the catch hole on the magazine slightly larger.

Thanks - from what I understand. Metal bar is placed in the front of the mag, going all the way down through the mag. This is done to make the cartridges staay in place since they are shorter (missing the bullet) than a real (in this case dummy) cartridge.

I've marked it in this picture:

First of all, how easy is it to open the mag (and close it)
and then, is it easy to remove this metalpiece?

Thanks

All of the Marushin made 30 round magazines do not have the "bar" in the front of the magazine. Only the steel Marushin 20 round magazines have the "bar" The "bar" in the MGC and the Marushin magazines is actually a steel strap that has been bent and spot welded into the magazine tube. It isn't easily removable.

I would suggest that you either modify a real 30 round magazine or use a real 30 round Marushin magazine for the "shot"

So every 30 round mag from Marushin could be fitted with dummys? It's only the 20 round ones that has this blockage in them?

Yes, just the 20 round magazines had the blockage built in. That's what was so surprising to me when I received my Marushin 30 round magazine as I thought that all of the Marushin as well as all of the MGC made M16 magazines had the block. So yes, the Marushin made 30 round magazines will accept dummy rounds without modifications.

I managed to put 3 or 4 inert 5.56mm complete rounds into a Marushin M16 20rd magazine just for display to prop up against the gun without any problems at all.
The ramp didn't impede loading at all

I didn't fill the mag completely as there was no need, actually took 2 out in case the spring got a little weak while the 'display' sat there for weeks.

3 or 4 dummy rounds in a maruschin 20 rnd mag may be pushing it a little, but it's a sound idea:)

see.........

1x pfc round in a marushin 20 round mag

many inert rounds in 2x 30 round mags
Possible to Modify Marushin Magazines? Mag2

1x pfc plus 2x dummy round in a marushin 20 round mag
Possible to Modify Marushin Magazines? Mag3

now compare the two

the only thing missing is the weight:)

That does look better doesn't it?

Thanks for that mate.

I just remembered another tip going back a while now, was it to convert real mags for model use?

If the magazines' ramp was proving a problem, either glue or solder an empty shell case onto the ramp, that stays there permanently. You can then load with pfc rounds without a problem.

....but don't forget to weaken the spring in the real mag!

the real mags have much stronger springs, and this can cause feed / cycle issues in model guns.

i may have an image of what i did to attempt to cure this artifact.
, but if the truth be known, whatever i did wasn't enough to overcome the inherent feed jam issues of this model gun! Sad

Oh Tell Me About It mate!

Take some time to scroll through the Magazies and Problems threads...
Better still, put M16 and XM177 or Real Magazines, or Mag Loaders into the Search facility here and read all about the spring issues for all models and firing the M16/XM177's...
