| Wanted Please... Colt M1911 magazine for this MGC hybrid model. Lower part is from an early type model but slide's off a later HW type. This photo shows incorrect cartridges, it uses the old Chrome bodied / Copper tipped ones. I ordered a new magazine some time ago but it was too long and as there seem to be several models of 1911s about I don't know which to order. Magazine Catch slot is 4mm wide and it's bottom edge is 72mm from the base of the magazine The mag's had a hard life by the look of it and the feed lips are damaged so overall lengths of 112 and 114mm may be slightly out... Does anyone have a good one or can identify it please? Thanks Cerwyn _________________ Cerwyn

| These 3 are out of my MGC made RMI guns. They measure out exactly as above. 4mm catch slot. 72mm to bottom of magazine. 112mm overall length. Hope this helps, or might even throw a spanner in the works. Dan. | |

| Hi Dan, They look ringers for mine mate, thanks a lot! I don't know enough about the history of the MGC / RMI range of Colts to say for sure, but as they measure up right I'd have to assume the RMI mags would fit mine fine. Anyone have a spare RMI mag then please? | |

| Still looking for a mag without much success. Would consider a broken GM2 MGC Colt 1911 as a source of spares at the right price Anyone out there got one? _________________ Cerwyn

| I've got one of the old plastic kit versions, but I haven't measured it yet... can try to do that later. Wouldn't mind selling it though- never got it to work quite right, as one of the springs kept popping out of place. | |

| I remember some years ago talking to the guy at our local army surplus store who used to sell the MGC/RMI guns, that shooters with genuine 1911s were buying the replica magazines to use in their guns, but they needed slight modifications.
So I'm guessing that they are very close.

| Haha yeah, but it could mean that if all those different magazines suit genuine 1911s, then it could be that a whole lot of replica ones suit other replicas. | |

| Thanks Dan but modelguns-worldwide won't sell any spare parts or accessories unless the model gun has been supplied by them too. _________________ Cerwyn

| Subject: RMI vs. RS mags Sat Mar 21, 2009 6:47 pm | |
| I have a couple of RMI labeled MGC colt .45 replicas, there are pictures elsewhere - I bought them in a bulk lot a while back.
I also have a collection of real 1911's Colts, Springfield and Kimber and quite a number of different mags. The RMI/MGC 1911's I have, came with a copy of the regular/basic colt style magazine (that is, it is visually very similar to the magazine that comes with your standard Colt when you buy it from the factory.)
The mags for the replica and real firearm are very similar, but do differ enough; The real mag is taller by about 3-4mm. The top of the mags are identical, and if you could push the replica RMI/MGC mag upwards another 3mm-4mm they probably would fit the real Colt well enough to chamber, however you cannot as there is a lip extended from the front lower portion of the magazine. The two magazines are the same width and breadth.
When you lay the mags side by side, with the top of the mags on a parallel line, the magazine clips line up in the same place, however the colt clip hole/opening is smaller in length and height by about 1mm -2mm.
Conclusion, the RMI/MGC mag will not "work" in a real 1911 handgun, even with a new clip hole, it is too short to allow the slide to chamber. The real Colt magazine might work in an RMI/MGC replica if: a. You opened the clip hole/opening on the magazine to a larger size. b. You didn't mind about 3-4mm of mag hanging beneath your grip frame.
Hope this is useful.
BTW. There are very cheap after market mags made, they are available in lots of outlets. But watch out for some seriously bad machine work, I have had more problems with cheap 1911 mags breaking than mags for any other firearm, period.

| Thanks very much for the above information pitfighter That answers a lot of questions and points to the fact I really need a RMI/MGC mag' for my old 1911 _________________ Cerwyn

| I had one of the heavyweights a wjhile back...and I used a real USGI 7 round M1911A1 .45 magazine in it with zip-point-zero problems. I did NOT modify the real mag in any way.
Hope that this helps. It is your cheapest cure.
