| Post by radback Except genuine japanese caps, do you know if it is possible to use something else? Maybe real arm primers? I tried fulminate primer for black powder gun (very small one: 3mm) and it didn't work. Otherwise, where is the cheapest place to buy genuine caps? _________________ Marushin M84 (broken) MGC M16 Vietnam and: Shotgun wanted | |

| Post by Mark The genuine MGC/Marushin caps are certainly the best caps to use. But as some of you have noticed, they are both expensive and somewhat hard to find!
When I first started to collect and then fire these modelguns, I quickly discovered that the caps where rare in the USA and no one had them!
The only subsitute that I could use that worked fairly good where the "ring caps" for the cap pistols (they are also packaged on strips) these caps are about 3-4mm in diameter and will fit quite nicely in an old 7mm cap body (that works for an adaptor for the smaller cap)
These "ring" caps are inexpensive and are easily found here in the U.S. I am not sure if you can find them in Europe it's worth the try!
The primers made for real firearms, suprisingly, doesn't have as much power as the red phosphorus filler in the Japanese caps!
I haven't found a "cheap" place to buy the genuine caps yet!!

| Post by Mark Hi MadHatter!
Gday and Welcome to the forums!
Thanks for the information, I have been to his site before and his prices on the caps are not too bad considering the rarity of caps here in the U.S.
Obtaining the caps here, is always challenging due to this mostly unknown hobby here...

| Post by MadHatter Hi Atleast where you are you can obtain both the model guns & ammo, here in Australia it is now impossible to obtain both, all imports of such items are on the verboten list, those that are in country before the ban are the only ones to remain semi-legal, even those require a special permit (Prohibited weapons General Permit) in some states, which requires the owner to maintain a level 3 safe storage facility (an Armoury)
I found this site because a member of a Reenactment group I belong to is trying to find replacement parts for his Original MP40, namely the Bolt Spring & Firing Pin, he needs these parts in order to render the MP40 for use as a "Blank Firer"

| Post by Mark Madhatter,
I know about your troubles in Austrailia, it sounds pretty bad! A few years ago, you could buy modelguns and real firearms whith out too much trouble..
But, sadly, no more...I visited a site in Austrailia, that sold modelguns, I think it was Gold coast armory or something like that. Well, they had a superb selection of modelguns and they also had a page of regulations that you had to follow in order to purchase them...It sounded like you where handling nuclear weapons, not modelguns!!
You might put an add in the modelgun parts wanted section for the MGC mp40 parts that your friend is looking for..I am sure the British could help as they are very much into blank firing conversions of the MGC mp40.
