| Hi all, I've been messing around in my workshop seeing if it is possible to make replacement modelgun cartridges. Making one or two is fairly simple but making large(ish) batches that are identical and interchangeable is a little more complicated. I've tweaked the design from the original Hudson cart to strengthen the rim and nose (my one on the left). These are currently without internals (piston/primer) but they can be reused from damaged carts. 8ace

| I can vouch for these custom cartridges I have 50 which are proving to be far stronger than the original Hudsons. Rims and cart noses are virtually unmarked after several times through my PPSh41Very highly recommended ! _________________ Cerwyn

| How did you make it ? I was planning to buy a 3D printer to try to make replacement cartridges for a Hudson AK-47 (not sure whether it will work). | |

| Hi, Sadly carts can't be 3D printed due to the very fine thread joining the two halves. They have been made from brass on a lathe. I'd recommend getting a 3D printer as I've just got one and have been having fun with it. I have made some AK carts which are being tested before finalising the design. (4 new ones on the right) | |

| Great work 8ace. What sort of lathe you making them on, as i have a myford super 7 and hoping to start making some soon. Are you screw cutting the threads or using dies. | |

I was planning to buy a 3D printer to try to make replacement cartridges for a Hudson AK-47 (not sure whether it will work). 8ace is correct on the threading - the 3D printer will not be able to do that next i am quite sure that the 3D printing base material will be too week to carry the forces in the rim, thus bog risc of breaking durring chambering or extraction. i have not worked professionally with 3D printing in years now but do also see manufacturing tolerances as a challence for the 3D printing process Go for the Lathe | |

| I tested 5 of 8ace's AK cartridges and found them to be excellent. My HUDSON AK was heavily modified several years ago to make it perform properly. It's capable of firing 30 cartridges without stoppages.8ace's aluminium Carts are tough. Very little rim marking from the Extractor & Ejector, smooth feeding and extraction. When more are available to buy I'll be buying some for certain _________________ Cerwyn

| Once setup it usually takes about 2-4 minutes to make each component so a complete cart would be around 10-14 minutes.

| With the CNC lathe setup the machining part is reasonably quick as there are no manual tool changes; if it took anymore time I’m not sure I’d be making them as the time needed to produce them would be prohibitive.
I’ll give you a shout when I start making them which could be in a month or so as I’m finalising the piston design.
