Another youtube offering, a good performing cap-firing M1 carbine. I'm not sure of the model's manufacturer so if you can tell me I'll ammend the video's title
1) I was actually worried about the spent rounds wrecking the model planes behind (0:47~0:57);
2) Why this gentleman got the open barrel (1:12 - smoke out from the muzzle) while mine's blocked? Such modifications shall not be allowed if in Japan

Jim,
I have this Tanaka M1. The barrel getting narrowed inside at a point, with clearance only smoke can path through. Therefore, if you put stick inside or look into a barrel, you may feel it is blocked.

Hi Shaz ,
All right...thanks! Very innovative indeed as only smoke can pass through (not even the light)...this a legal loophole (supposed all metal longarms need to have the bore completely blocked)?

Subject: TANAKA M1 CARBINE - RETRO FITTING WARTIME PARTS Sat Apr 27, 2024 10:16 am
Hi there
The M1 carbine by TANAKA effectively sports all the very late war (and post WW2) upgrades…
The rear sight should be a simple flips sight but has the later / post war graduated sights.
The safety should be a simple push button but is a small post war lever.
The stock is the ‘low wood pot belly’ type and the top hand guard has four rivet holes (wartime hand guards had just two).
The later version barrel band and bayonet lug was only seen very, very late WW2 and likely didn’t see any action in North West Europe.
The question is how easily the parts may be able to be swapped out to make a Tanaka carbine a little more ‘WW2’…
Has anyone tried?
Cheers
Pete

In the previous message, I put images of the wartime sight…
Here are wartime barrel bands and the top handguard (two rivet):

And the different between ‘high wood’ and ‘low wood’ stocks. Both are fine for wartime as the ‘high wood’ was weaker around the action and split…

And the difference in the safety catches… wartime are generally push button. They changed to the lever type because the mechanics of the safety and magazine release were the same and both very close together.
