The main reason that the Hudson pistons don't work as well as the MGC designed pistons is that the Hudson pistons tend to turn in their bore after the cap is fired.
I believe the for this is that the Hudson pistons are too short in length as well as their diameter is insufficient. That, and the Hudson supplied, O-rings are also far too small. Thus, they tend to twist and jam in their bores instead of smoothly sliding back due to gas pressure. The MGC pistons are larger in diameter as well as they feature larger O-ring that positively locates the piston in the cartridge body.
