Hi guys-
Just thought I'd share my experience with restoring a "deactivated" MGC 68 MP40. I took on this project for a friend and fellow forum member. I wasn't sure what I'd get into as I've never had one of these models. Many of these imported to the US were modified to not be able to fire. The challenge was to see if we could get this one to a firing model. I've done it a number of times with the MGC Thompson, but I have never touched an MP40.
The barrel nut was secured by two nested roll pins, so removing them was the first step. The barrel had a steel plug press fit into it at the chamber end. After removing the steel plug, I noticed that the barrel was fully blocked, end to end. I was unable to detect any ferrous metal in the barrel, so I decided to drill it for venting purposes. The zinc chamber was also blocked. I removed the blockage and sized the hole appropriately to fit the p220 custom detonator. Some other minor tweaks and it was ready to roll. Tested it and I was pleasantly surprised. However, during the test shots the little feed lip on the bolt face gave out and that had to be repaired. Another friend hooked me up with a steel bolt face for the zinc bolt - amazing!
Long story short, the restoration was a success I think! Keep in mind this particular MP40 was never meant to be a firing model! Here's a quick 10 round test using KD220 carts and MGC 7mm caps:

Great Work. Question where can I purchase the MGC 7mm caps in the USA? I have several MGC68 MP-40's I am in the process of restoring which take time and $$$.
