Hi, does anyone know if Jay who runs MG props is still in business, I’ve been trying to buy 5mm caps from him, and I’ve never had a reply or any invitation to place my order, I’m getting quite frustrated about this now, I have a Derringer PFC model and a Colt revolver model which use the 5mm caps which I would like to have some fun with, within my own home obviously! I tried to contact PFC Cap Guns but because I’ve never bought a model from him, he refuses to sell me any. Can anybody help?

As far as I'm aware, MG Props are still in business. Also, again as far as i'm aware, PFCGUK are the only importer of caps in the UK.
As you're using derringers and revolvers, blowback power isn't essential so these toy caps might work with a little tweaking. i got mine from amazon a long while back

I’ve tried these, not impressed, I’ve had the mg caps a few times before, they’re much better, also, jay advertises the mg caps on his website, so unless he’s not updated it, he apparently still sells them. I’ve actually bought the caps from Pfcguk before on a couple of occasions without buying anything else, but he’s suddenly decided to stop selling unless you’ve bought a model from him.

I'd agree that these caps aren't as good as Japanese MG caps as they are. A bit of tweaking, ie separating 2, 3, even 4 of the cap from the plastic cup and adding them into 1 cup can give a louder bang. Yes, it is fiddly, but if there's no alternative could be worth it.
Jay at MG Props did sell caps in the past but only to customers that bought modelguns off him. That was before the Japanese re classified caps as explosives which created huge problems shipping them out of Japan. PFCGUK have paid huge sums to get the necessary paperwork to import caps and as I understand it, they're the only company that have done so. Having been in contact with PFCGUK over the past couple of months, they are putting an order together sometime soon. Like many other forum members I'm desperate for caps too.

I bought the derringer off of him in 2006.

How do you beef the caps up? Could you sprinkle in a tiny amount of potassium nitrate?

I've no experience of using potassium nitrate with caps so I can't really comment on that.
Beefing up those Sure Shot ring caps is fiddly but worth a try if you need extra power. Simply put, it's a case of getting the charge out of as many extra caps as you need. It's possible to pick the charge out with a pin or cocktail stick with care. Add the extra charge to the 5mm (approx) by placing it (or them) loose, into the plastic outer. Loading into cartridges, I'd place the piston (MGC CP type) as close to the cap as you can just to stop the loose charges moving. With PFC (Marushin type) place the cap as near to the internal firing pin as poss.
Fortunately for you, the revolver and Derringer don't need blowback power so you won't have to go too heavy with extra charges. Start with a standard cap, then add one at a time. They won't be very loud, bear that in mind, but that can have advantages. Not scaring the neighbours being one
