STERLING IS SOLD
Selling one of my 2 Sterlings here.
Asked a few questions about these a few months ago, check here:
https://mp40modelguns.forumotion.net/t5958-2x-mgc-sterling-what-exactly-do-i-have-here - selling the one I named "No 2" in the linked thread.
As you probably know, when you read this in a forum like this one, MGC's Sterlings are famous for their stamped steel externals and overall build quality
The one I offer here is in very good shape overall, still has a few downsides:
- bolt face is cut 45°, see pics
- I don't have cartridges for these
- The lever on the rear underside that's meant to hold the end cap in place is jammed a bit, the spring is still there, but seems to have lost tension. Minor issue, that probably can be resolved easily, plus the cap holds well enough by itself
Mysteries are:
- I'm not sure, what kind of chamber this has (it's the same on both of Sterlings I have here), there's no detonator pin or anything comparable, just a cylindrical insert - see pics for this, too
- The gun does not have the usual rear hand protection on the barrel shroud and it obviously has never been there, as there are no weld marks or anything. Seems to have been produced without that small part.
Apart from that, it's in good condition, especially considering its age of well over 50 years.
No rust issues (the few brown spots you see is old gun grease), just patina, wear and a few scratches here and there.
No zinc corrosion on the chamber or anywhere else, where zinc is used.
Mechanically everything works fine when handled manually: Pull the charging handle, bolt locks in rear position, slams forward when trigger is pulled.
This works in semi and f/a setting.
On safe (middle position), the trigger is blocked, as it should be.
Folding stock and mag both work fine and are in good condition aswell.
The gun had a missing charging handle and a missing safety lever, both were reproduced professionally by a friend of mine.
The new charging handle has been milled from steel.
The new safety lever has been built from aluminum.
Both have been blackened.
Disassembly works as it should.
"Japan" stamp on the end cap and "Safex" stamp (that was the company that imported these into Germany somewhere around the 80s) + number on the magazine well.
All in all this modelgun feels extremely authentic, there's a good reason why the modelguns from that era are as sought after as they are
Price: 650,00€ / GBP 550 plus shipping SOLD
For now I'd like to try to find a buyer within the EU as this makes shipping + import a lot easier.
If someone from the UK is interested and has a foolproof way of importing it, I might give it a try
