Hi all, thanks for the join 👍
I'm ex British army civvy full bore shooter and now collector of deacts to show along with my land rover lightweight ex army.

I've picked up a nice MGC Colt Commando that will be nice in a Vietnam diorama.
Although I won't need to fire much I would like to be able to if possible, I gather that getting hold of the old style caps for reloading is different these days as they are sourced from Japan.

Any advice on how I can source any of these reloading caps? Or will I just make do with a presentation piece?

Good morning, I have been searching through many posts and learning more about my MGC Colt commando and the history behind the company.
Whilst searching for "paper caps" I have came across "Cerwyn" a lot. I take it he is the main admin here. If you do read this Cerwyn, I noted a recent post where you mention you might have the caps required for sale in the UK? If you do or know where I can source any please let me know.
Thanks again

Hi Sconie,

It all depends on what version of the commando you have, if its the full metal version, then these were designed to fire the open style cartridge with "paper caps" which are no longer available to buy ( like the old paper caps we had in the UK but HUGE!)
BUT it can be converted to fire a new cp type hybrid cartridge with a little work.

If its the ABS version then it will use the normal 7mm pfc caps in the cartridges and Cerwyn will be able to help you out.

I hope this helps

Thanks for the reply kickback, yea mines is the metal version so old paper carts then. Would you know what the conversion details are? Bought it to add to my collection of deacts and vehicle weapons, but if not daft money I'd maybe look into this. Cheers.

Hi Sconie,

You need to change the det pin in the chamber first and foremost, which is easily done once stripped down, the the hybrid cartridge is made up of an mgc 5.56 lower shell and inners with a mgc p220 bullet head, this shortens the cartridge enough to work in the commando's magazine.
All of these items are still available, well the mgc p220 cartridge is hard to come by but Tanio Koba make a copy of it that works very well.

Hope this helps

Thanks for the info, I'll look into that. MG PROPS that I bought it from says I can also try to reload the original shells using powder from a couple of PFC caps and experiment with wadding, so I'll give that a go too and feedback in case it helps others in a similar position. Cheers
