| Subject: Airsoft Metal Slide, Frame & Barrel for a Modelgun? Tue 26 Aug 2008 - 4:47 | |
| Post by John Hi,
Having discussed so long on modification of an airsoft to modelgun. Though it is possible, with reference from our Japanese friends on their success stories, I think it is really not an easy task. And it also requires to get a lot of spare parts from other modelgun and even dismantle / damage the good modelgun in order to get the parts. It is not easy, both financially and technically.
Now, how about this, which looks a bit easier. To modify the airsoft metal slide, frame & barrel for modegun. If that can be done, it surely adds a lot of fun on firing (no easy broken slide & barrel) and enhances much on realism. Now, nearly all semi-auto modelgun pistols are produced with ABS or HW slides (only the Taiwan Haw San produces metal slide model pistols.) There are plenty of products for airsoft metal slide, frame and barrel in the market (e.g. Zeke, Shriff, G&P). They are in general very high quality with good markings and very accurate to 1:1 scale as they are intended made for the high quality airsoft like WA, Marui, KSC, Tanaka, Maruzen. I wish to know if anyone have tried to successfully modify the airsoft metal slide, frame & barrel for the existing modelgun, E.g. USP, M9, M1911.
USP、M9、M1911。

| Post by rizzo I have also been wondering whether this is possible, however my enquires give me the impression that it is more trouble than it is worth. The internals of most model guns are very similar to the real thing, however airsoft pistols are completely different in design and operation (of course). I would be keen to know if anyone has had any success in installing an airsoft metal frame and slide on their model gun | |

| Post by Mark I think that the conversion is possible but, it will take time to accomplish the conversion and lots of thought and energy too.,.
At any rate, the all metal modelgun produced by that method would be worth it only if it was a rare non-produced modelgun as the (breakage aside) manufacturers make really nice modelguns as it is and I see little need for metal components in some designs...
I haven't tried to make airsoft components work on a modelgun (yet) but, I might try soon.

| Post by John Mark, But the metal really gives you heavy, cool & cold feeling & the sound produced by moving the slide (of course by hand, not by firing in HK) is un-matched by any ABS/HW material. Instead of hearing the cap ban sound, the metal feel does give me a lot of fun & satisfaction (always dreaming of holding a real gun !). Metal modelgun is so temptative to me ! Luckily I got some Hwa San already. | |

| Post by Mark John,
Yes, you are lucky to have the Hwa-San all metal modelguns!
They may not be as detailed as you want, but they are still all metal modelguns and you are lucky that China allows the importation of them still!

| Post by John Mark,
Just a minor clarification. Though Hong Kong is part of China, we have very different legal systems. Modelgun is allowed in HK, so as most metal frame/slide modelguns and airsoft. However, all modelguns and airsoft are strictly forbidden in China. It is a very serious offence to own such things by individual in China - usually resulting in long term imprisonment. Even the 1:1 springers are not allowed there.
Yes, I think I'm lucky. | |

| Post by GmanUK hi i think the only possibility is maybe having a metal barrel as i cant see it hard modding it to house the firing pin as for slide and frame its all seems like a lot of hard work, is possibley impossible to do so. but if some does so and sucseeds let me know Good Luck | |

| Post by Mark Well, i don't think that a person could make a modelgun fire real cartridges as they are designed with the thought of preventing a successful conversion to actual cartridges.
Also, they are made out of "junk" metals that could not stand the pressures that a real firearm generates when they fire basically, you would just have a handgrenade if you tried to convert a modelgun to fire real ammunition. Not to mention that it is ILLEGAL in many countrys... _________________ Wanted to buy: MGC Sten MK3....trades?(still)

| Post by GmanUK well it will only be an airsoft gun metal barrel and i cant see that being to much of a prob as there made of very thin dense allot metals. it would 100% be totally ileagal here in the uk but still worth a thought i supose | |

| Post by Claymore If you could mod an airsoft metal barrel it would be good and to be honest i dont think that would be illegal over here as modelguns are not classed as blank firers, a blank firer would be illegal and it would not be worth it if it was in anyway illegal the punishment is way to severe to be worth it. | |

| Post by rizzo Just to say, under Section 5 of the firearms laws in the UK, it is totally illegal to use ANY component of a firearm anywhere. This means slide, frame, barrel etc. However, this means after market grips etc are legal, as long as they weren't previously on a firearm. | |

| Post by Claymore That's using real firearms parts though which would be understandably illegal. I would of thought that taking airsoft parts would be OK as they were never a firearm in the first place | |

| Post by rizzoSure, that's perfectly legal I was just clarifying the governments stance. I might look into a metal slide for my 1911, although i'd want to look at one before i bought it... Full metal guns are illegal in Japan *i think* so that is why you'll probably never see a full metal MGC beretta KJW make full metal airsoft Berettas, of which i have two You might be able to modify the slides and frames to fit a modelgun | |

| Post by Mark Yes, in some cases the all metal modelguns are legal in Japan. It just depends when they where made and if they have a separate removable barrel or not.
The all zinc modelguns with a removable barrel are prohibited as they figure that you could make a new barrel and fit it to the frame or something...
The older all zinc modelguns can still be owned but, they have to be modified by filling the "open" barrels with lead and painting them with gold paint.
The newer all zinc modelguns like Marushin makes are gold plated to identify them as modelguns/replicas (kind of like the orange paint in the U.S.) but they still make all metal modelguns in Japan today.
MGC used to make all zinc modelguns and there are still many around i think that MGC knows that they don't sell well and they probably don't plan to sell them. _________________ Wanted to buy: MGC Sten MK3....trades?(still)

| Post by John Full metal modelgun pistols from Haw San (made in Taiwan) are still available. I think it is hard to modify any metal airsoft part to fit modelgun as many parts of the airsoft are dummy (e.g. extractor)
Yes, same in HK (the law here originated from UK), the firearm law is strict. Any part of real firearm (except the grip or stock) is illegal to own, not to mention to put it on modelgun. Anyway, I think it is good, to the interest of the general public.

| Post by Mark John has one or two of the Haw Sans. The nomenclature on the slides is really bad looking and certainly not correct. But, where else are you going to find cap firing all zinc modelguns these days? The only other all zinc firing gun replicas are blank firing and they are illegal in alot of countrys, and where they are legal, they are too loud to fire indoors _________________ Wanted to buy: MGC Sten MK3....trades?(still) MGC MP40 Marushin MP40 Nakata MP40 TRC MP40 Modelgun manufacturers, past and present:CMC,CAW,Hudson,HWS,LS,MGC(R.I.P. 1960's~2007) Marushin,Marui,Kokusai,Shoei,Tanaka and Western Arms | |

| Post by John Yes, the only good things of Haw San is full metal & open barrel. Being full metal, you get all the goodies of cold, heavy feeling. Its marking is poor. | |

| Post by Claymore I would buy one of these but the fact that i cannot get any extra rounds puts me off also i had read that the one of there berretas was full auto which would be interesting. six rounds on full auto would be pointless though so unless more ammo is available i dont think i will bother. | |

claymore you could (or i could) certainly convert the HawShans to use MGC or other cartridges if more cartridges are unavailable..But, 6 rounds fullauto in a metal modelgun would be really cool and i am sure that the recoil would certainly be a little stronger with the metal slide running back and forth. _________________ Wanted to buy: MGC Sten MK3....trades?(still)
