| Post by Mark Yes, while I certainally do enjoy watching the shoot out scene I too noticed the 1,000,000 round magazines that Hollywood always uses in their movies the sound that the shoot-out makes with the echo that can be heard in the distance is worth watching/hearing over and over. I guess that they filmed the shoot out in the afternoon in the city with full power blanks and they didn't use "canned" gunfire sound as they usually do that is why the sound of the fire fight is so good. _________________ Wanted to buy: MGC Sten MK3....trades?(still) MGC MP40 Marushin MP40 Nakata MP40 TRC MP40 Modelgun manufacturers, past and present:CMC,CAW,Hudson,HWS,LS,MGC(R.I.P. 1960's~2007) Marushin,Marui,Kokusai,Shoei,Tanaka and Western Arms | |

| Post by Claymore I do believe the Andy Mcnabb (ex SAS bravo 2 zero etc) was the fireams instructor for them and the tactics adviser, so you would of thought mag changes would of been part and parcel. Still great sequence though, so good ones in Ronin as well. | |

| Post by Illuminati he was saying that a rather famous ex-sas guy, andy mcnab, helped them with the action scenes etc, tactics n whatnot, and he thought that mag changes would of been "key" to the scene with him helping out. | |

| Post by Mark I am sure as per typical Hollywood fashion they cut the magazine changing scenes out to "save time" or they thought that they where un-necessary to the plot. Hey 1,000,000 round magazines are real right? _________________ Wanted to buy: MGC Sten MK3....trades?(still)

| Post by Mark Could you imagine the weight of 1,000,000 rounds?
If they where to make another "Heat" style movie with a really good shoot-out with magazine changes etc. that was very realistic that would be great! However, Hollywood would never do it they would always screw it up and do some "creative" cutting to get rid of the cool detail...Very few movies feature magazine changes and or accurate details as they are extraneous to their plot. Sad...
One movie, that I can think of that has at least a few magazine changes is "The Hunter" with Steve McQueen and there are some others that I cannot think of right away. _________________ Wanted to buy: MGC Sten MK3....trades?(still)

| Post by Reemo I think you guys are all wrong on this one......
I was ECSTATIC when I saw Val Kilmer not only CHANGE MAGS, but hit the bolt release!!!
YAY!!!!!! First time in movie history! THE BOLT RELEASE!
The shootout in HEAT is tops!
And not only to guys like me........
Recall the famous "Hollywood shootout" at the Bank of America.......their escape was based on the fictional advance/shootout in the movie HEAT.
You guys want to see the "100,000 round magazine" watch ANY episode of the 1960's series, "COMBAT!". _________________ "This is your life......and its ending one minute at a time."

| Post by INTERCEPTOR I noticed gun-fight movies think of this detail well better than any others, like "The Killer" of John Woo (and a few others from him), we see a few (because they often pick up other guns when they're out of ammo ) but you see the characters reload quite often... Gives it much more realism Btw, I recommend this great film to anybody _________________ It was in the middle of a dark night, I was standing in the middle of the scene. | Post by MadMike Yes, the bolt catch action was great! A thing even Airsoft Players dream about.
Well, I think there were some (rather sensational) mag change scenes with the Colt .45 in LAST MAN STANDING, but its a few years I watched this movie.
No reloading was also needed in PREDATOR, when they cut the jungle into pieces using a minigun ...

| Post by John There are lots of reloading scenes in "The Patriot" (2000) - one at a time !
BTW, I do not recall any reloading scene in the cowboy movies in the good old days ! They had unlimted shots from the revolvers & rifles.

| Post by INTERCEPTOR Yeah, Rizzo you're right I think he shoots too many rounds per guy, with a Dual Beretta he shoots at least 10 rounds per person When he says he always leave one in his mag, its almost unbelievable Btw, what film is this pic shot from on your avatar ? ^^ _________________ It was in the middle of a dark night, I was standing in the middle of the scene. | Post by 2sharp One movie that has (IMHO) nice gun handling is "Way of the gun". I highly recommend it, the scene where Benicio Del Toro shoots through walls with his FN FAL is awesome... The HEAT firefight is super-neat... Last edited by 2Sharp on Mon Mar 20, 2006 12:14 am; edited 1 time in total | |

| Can you imagine being the poor guy responsible for stripping, cleaning, lubricating, recapping and reasembling all of them 1,000,000 PFC rounds? Hell my girlfriend plays holly hell when I ask her to gimme ahand to load up a 30 rd mag in my Thompson! It's no wonder movies take years to make! I'd heard that McNab had been an advisor on a shootout film, so this must be it I guess. Apparently it's the 'keep attacking and advancing' techique so favoured by the good old British Army (best defence is attack!) The best filmed shootout (although it was for real and killed people) must be the bankrobbery in LA where 2 guys went in with AK47's, semi auto pistols and a G3 (I think). They took 3000 rds in, mostly armour piercing, shot the place to hell but got themselves killed in the process. Helicopter TV crews caught a lot of it on film... frightening. It's a wonder they could walk carrying allthose loaded magazines. C _________________ Hobby collector of mainly WW2 era uniforms, headgear, field equipment and replica weapons. | |

| Post by 2sharp Seems i need to see 44 minutes. Horrible, good that the only people to die were the robbers - good riddance. You sure that they carried 3000 rounds on their person?? It'd be around 150 magazines on each person, that's shit loads of weight. I usually carry 12 magazines when in military gear, and that is quite heavy... Maybe they re-stocked from their vehicle? I'll check the movie out, then i will probably get an answer to all my questions | |

| Hiya, The 2 robbers had a car outside, I guess a lot of their gear was kept in that. If you get the History Channel on Satellite TV, keep your eye out for a series called 'Shootout'. The raid was reenacted on that, including real footage. The 2 had made their own kevlar body armour suits, making it possible to get to the car and theoir supplies under fire. Despite taking several hits they were able to continue firing, if my memory serves me right the police reckoned the robbers fired over 1100 rounds between them. The crazy thing about it was the LA Police were only issued with shotguns and pistols. They had radioed base requesting heavier weapons to combat these 2 with AK's but resorted to commandering a load of semi auto rifles and assault weapons from a Gunstore in the street! So the public have access to assault weapons but the Police don't! Only in America I guess! I hope the moderator doesn't mind chatter like this... | Post by 2sharp Yeah, i've seen a few short vid clips of it, and read some tidbits. It's crazy... As crimnals doesn't have laws to worry they can have what they want, we see a lot of illegal Ak's and various illegal munitions from the Balkans here in Sweden. As the EU has opened up the borders it is easy to get'em in. So it is not only in America. I'd say that the main reason the police weren't issued any carbines or rifles was political, bad press to see the cops tote "highpowered assault rifles". Which to me is b.s if there ever were. It seem that the cops nowadays are more frequently carrying or are issued/allowed to own and carry some sort of carbine in their car. I'm positive to that any police has more tools to choose from, as long as it isn't seen as a "be all, end all" solution. I too hope that this discussion is ok | |

| I know this is getting off the main topic, and apologise beforehand but... I was privelaged enough to meet a gentleman recently whose wartime occupation was a Tail Gunner in Lancaster bombers. He told me of one raid where defending himself (and crew) from a nightfighter, he emptied his 4 x .303 Brownings, loosing off 11,000 rounds. Once empty, that was his lot! They got home ok, but his armourers told him that all his barrels were bent, overheated by the constant firing. Which reminds me of that vid posted here a little while ago, the new barrel for the M60... was it 850rds continuous in 1min 45secs or something? Anyway, better go before I get told off!
