Hi,

I have recently purchased some new and some unfired older model MGC guns.
Whilst generally pleased, on some of the models there are marks and imperfections in the ABS finish.
These look like residual finger print or oil type marks on the satin finish and don't want to wipe off.
I have tried oil, silicone oil, and a dry cloth polish.
Anyone experienced this and has anyone any ideas as to how to remove these annoying marks.
Thanks in anticipation.
Mike.

Hi Mike.

Welcome!

Are these ABS models or Heavyweight ABS?

If they are the Heavyweight material, there are often "swirls" and imperfections in the mixture that can lead to the marks you may be attempting to describe. I don't know if there is any way to fix those.

Thanks for the reply, it is actually the plastic ABS finish on the MGC Colt 1911 that is presenting the problem.
It lookes like fingerprint residue that has stained the plastic on the slide sides.

Hi Mike, welcome to the Forum!

If all else fails, you may be able to refinish the surface by rubbing down with fine wet'n'dry paper used wet. As it's staining you want to remove rather than scratches the finer the better.
Start with as fine a grit as you can, then repeat with finer grits. Final rub down could be done with 1200 or finer steel wool.
It's possible then, if you need to, to polish up the plastic with cutting paste, T-Cut should do it.

Hi Guys and thanks for the reply's.
The worry about these suggestions is losing the satin matt finish on the plastic, and resulting in a different finish on the slide, which on reflection might be OK, if I only did the slide sides.
Just wary of starting without advice from the seasoned professional model gun experts.
Thanks.
Mike.
