I've been offered this Mauser Broom handle replica for NZ$180.
Is it an early MGC (it has no markings whasovever)?

And could it be a dummy or PFC model? (I'll get some more pics later).

Is it worth the price?

Is it metal?

It might be early MGC M1916 (dummy) produced for export (RMI/CA) without any markings to avoid trademark issues.
The only marking these have is "JAPAN" somewhere on the right side, if I remember correctly.
Compare with pictures in this thread:
https://mp40modelguns.forumotion.net/mgc-mauser-m1916-broomhandle-modelgun-f27/mgc-mauser-m1916-broomhandle-modelgun-photo-gallery-t1202.htm

Hudson Mauser, the first modelgun produced in Japan, has a different shape of hammer:
https://mp40modelguns.forumotion.net/modelgun-instructions-f10/hudson-mauser-m1896-exploded-diagram-t765.htm

Marushin Mausers are M712, with fire selector switch on the left side, and all markings.

As for price, it depends how much it would cost to get from other sources ;-)
Locally I've seen these sell for about 120-200$, depending on condition and time of year (summer = lower prices).

It certainly does look like a MGC model. 180 NZ$ is about GB£80, that's not a bad price assuming it's in good condition and everything works as it should

There's more information here:-

Yes, metal it is - and the owner says it's fully working and strips down like the original.

Sounds like the price is reasonable so I just might buy it.

How can I determine if it fired the early cartiridges - and if it did so, could it be made to fire other PFC cartirdges?

I think that these Mausers could fire only paper cap cartridges, without blowback action. More knowledgeable people should give you more insight on that.

More pictures, including disassembled model:

Dang! Lots of goodies for sale in NZ, it seems...Wink
Yes, that's an older MGC. The little pin through the trigger is a dead giveaway. It should have no commercial markings, only "JAPAN" stamped on mag bottom. [EDIT - thread link removed- I just now noticed that Cerwyn had linked to my thread too]

Not sure if it's a paper cap shooter or dummy though.

Thanks guys. I've just got the Mauser - for NZ$130, so I'm happy with that!
Posted some pics in the MGC Broomhandle section for posterity!
