| Post by fightdesigner For me it's more about quality, realism, or style (especially in how they're used) than quantity... With that in mind, I'd add: The Way of the Gun (very good portrayal of gunplay) Ronin (good attitude towards guns from DiNiro- I love his line when he's asked about his favorite from Sean Bean. Also some damn fine stunt driving) Equilibrium (cheezy, but inventive, stylish, and fun) Desperado (even more cheesy, but also fun) Black Hawk Down (love that they included the sound design touch of having things get quiet and including the ringing after loud noises... Saving Private Ryan did that briefly in the Omaha Beach section too, and Children of Men did it very well and consistently) Firefly (TV series, damn good one, and it's fun to just play 'name that gun' since they seem to randomly grab prop guns from all eras) Collateral (good realistic gunplay) Boondock Saints (okay, kinda silly but fun). Versus (Cheesy Japanese zombie/gangster/samurai/everything else movie that I'm sure features tons of model guns. Waaaay over the top cheesy gunplay action where every new character has to be just so much more badass than the last one) Bourne series (Bourne Identity, Bourne Supremacy, etc) ...and for early period stuff, I love the "Sharpe" series the BBC did with Sean Bean: Sharp's Rifles, Sharpe's Sword, etc. Come to think of it, Glory was pretty good too, as I recall, but it's been a while. By the way, if I can sneak a plug in here: if anyone (in the US at least) wants to order any of these or other things off Amazon, please use my Amazon Portal so I can get a 1% referral fee in gift certificates and build my own library up some more. http://astore.amazon.com/nomadboi-20_________________ Freelance hack... and slash, and gun. | |

| Post by Spencerman I have to admit that I quite enjoyed Smoking Aces, although had I have not seen a documentary on the Barrett .50 cal the day before on the discovery channel, I dont think that I would have quite belived the destructive power of that gun, but boy it really does shoot like that! I also do like Tombstone, I like the fact that you get to see Wyatt open up his great big Eaglemaker and take it out to use, although it didnt really explain much about it, why he had it etc. For me there are two films that really stand out well for gunplay without mentioning Heat which you have already covered, and I surprised that nobody else has mentioned them yet. The first is SWAT. Not a great story line, but the opening sequence is based on the Hollywood bank robbery, and the rest of the film has some good gunplay. The best part has to be the extra features on the dvd (Specifically Region 1 I have seen it on, but not 100% sure if on the region 2 version) which go into detail about the guns used in the film. They show loads about the AK47, MP5, M4, and Kimar 1911. Great fun. The other one is The Bodyguard with Kevin Costner. Now you may be thinking what?!?, but the gunplay in that is really good. It is not overstated and overexagerated violence, it is very realistic. He has a great choice of weapons with the Browning Hi Power and the HK, and also the holster he uses to carry it is a pretty good one, one that I myself tended to prefer. For this reason, this is actually one of my more favoured movies. I also still like many of the above mentioned. _________________ | |

| Post by Pydracor How about pointing out "bad gunplay"? I noticed some mistakes in "The Shooter" with Mark Wahlberg. The choice of weapons in this movie is pretty good in my eyes, but you would expect, that a film with guns in such a big role pays more attentions to mistakes like: Manually repeating a semiautomatic Barrett after each shot or pulling the charging handle of an M4 instead of pushing the bolt release lever after inserting a new mag. Not exactly bad gunplay, but they use MP40s in Indiana Jones - Raiders of the lost ark, which supposedly takes place 1936... Well and of course I'd rather not expect anything like good gunplay in the "A-Team" but recently watching the first season I noticed this... creation... used by Murdock, I'd call it an Uzgram Even more stupid: A few minutes later, Hannibal is happy like a child when he finds a silenced Mac11 in the limo of the bad guy - "Well well well, an Ingram with an extra clip!" | |

| Post by Phobus " Charlie don,t surf !! " What a film !! Can,t think of a better anti war film . Maybe FMJ comes closest . Schindlers List ? Not sure if I like them BECAUSE of the weapons featured , rather because they are awesome films . Nowadays we are treated with extra realism in films don,t you think ? You see the guns fire , the empty eject , the flame , smoke , recoil , the round hit the target and probably hole the wall behind as well , often from multiple angles , close ups of the ejection port etc ( John Woo ? ) I was just thinking of the scene in BHD when the two guys with support weapons get separated from the rest - " Don,t shoot that thing near my ear I can barely hear already " then he rips a burst of full auto and destroys the door taking out the enemy !! Its as though film makers realise they cannot insult peoples intelligence anymore and realism is uppermost . You can,t just point a gun , go BANG , and smear a bit of cranberry sauce on the shirtfront anymore !! I watched Dirty Harry again the other day , oh dear oh dear !! Its funny and I must admit , unavoidable , watching out for gun related blunders in films . The older ones are the worst ( most of the time )but when you see quality ( The Matrix anyone ? ) it makes you smile and reach for the rewind / slow mo, button don,t it ? | What about "Tears of the Sun"... Bruce Willis as the inevitable Hero with Attitude Navy Seal saving the World in Central Africa with his Team
A good film with PLENTY of gun action... Well worth watching.
Another good Willis one is "Last Man Standing" far fetched maybe but action packed.

| Post by MadMike Although I am a big fan of war movies and the AR-15 rifle, I don´t like Tears of the Sun. Willis is sporting a nice M4A1 Carbine, no question, but I just don´t like the film ... it is just a feeling. Last Man Standing is great! Nice shootouts and reloading scenes with the old reliable .45 _________________ "It's a hardball world, son. We've gotta keep our heads until this peace craze blows over." | |

| Now you come to mention it, every History Channel "Shootout" programme and similar Re-enactments hae plenty of gun action as you would expect but seeing things like .30 Browning MG's belt fed with crimped blanks takes the edge off slightly I suppose. But then again you can't have Re-enactors dodging REAL rounds either can you Re-enactors do a great job in these programs, history is brought to life and these lads must spend huge amounts of money kitting themselves out for our benefit. Wish I could join them really! But that's the trouble with watching ANY film with things you know about in them. The errors are always glaring and annoying. Films with Motorcycles in them, (Mission Impossible II was bloody awful) The Italian Job (The Remake) was another, enough to make me cringe! Holywood films based on historical events which get almost everything wrong (but always making the Americans look good of course) are another source to fuel the Grumpy Old Man gene in me Did you know Braveheart is listed as having over 400 major errors? (With apologies to all our American friends on the forum of course) Cerwyn _________________ Hobby collector of mainly WW2 era uniforms, headgear, field equipment and replica weapons. | |

Cerwyn Hehehe Good one Cerwyn . Was,nt Braveheart shot in Ireland for a START OFF !!? I know what you mean about our American friends changing history at will and especially re : WW 2 films . Blimey we would still be at war now if they had,nt got involved !! Someone ( fightdesigner ? ) mentioned about Ronin , and the scene where they are discussing firearms with De Niro and Sean Bean . " What do you favour ? " etc etc I wonder if it was an American scriptwriter who made the token Brit a fuckwit coward pretend soldier ? and extremely tolerant / sympathetic in the portrayal of the IRA ( ala Patriot Games for instance ..) ?? Upsets me every time I see it and it is not uncommon in American productions . CARL. _________________ Marmite enthusiast | |

| Post by Mark Guys, I know. Hollywood is full of halfwits! That constantly changes history for what? Witness the movie U571..Talk about non history! Not only inaccurate as far as the enigma machine it also has side folding stocked Thompson's in it as well! I as an American, do feel that Hollywood distorts history in our favor all of the time. Are all of our directors/writers/producers in Hollywood biased or is it just it just an American obsession? I cannot tell you how many otherwise good movies that I have seen that have been ruined by slanted "historical" changes..Some movies that are good actually pay attention to the history of events..But, these movies are few and far between! _________________ Wanted to buy: MGC Sten MK3....trades?(still)

| Post by Phobus I agree Mark , and , to be fair , and to get some balance , I would have to say that almost ALL my favourite films are AMERICAN films . Alien , Bladerunner , Usual Suspects , Seven , Cuckoo,s nest , Apocalypse Now , FMJ , Exorcist , Big Sleep , Casablanca , Maltese Falcon ,Frankenstein , Nosferatu etc etc Maybe , American film producers should stick to what they do best . FICTION . Carl. _________________ Marmite enthusiast | |

| Post by Phobus I watched The Rock again last night .
Great stuff , loved it .
Loads of tasty gun action , esp, nice .45 close ups . Ed HARRIS very good actor . Do you find yourself looking out for gun blunders or fake gun alerts ??
The officers .45 is never seen front on , always at an angle , but it still looks like real steel to me ?
I know the same team made Con Air - another top notch action film , and again with some superb weapons scenes .
