I've got a parcel coming in from Japan, its arrived in Coventry, and on the tracking it now says:

'Awaiting presentation to customs commissioner'

Ive never seen this before? Does anyone know what this means?

The parcel is a spare magazine and cartidges.

Any ideas?

Ive just checked the parcel on parcelforce website and it says:

18-03-2010 23:42 International Hub AWAITING CUSTOMS CHARGING
18-03-2010 23:42 International Hub AWAITING CUSTOMS CHARGES

So it seems the 'Awaiting Presentation to Customs Commissioner' is just on the Japanese mail site.

So panic is now over i hope! Seems i just have a charge.

Phew.

This happens quite often lately, HMC will probably charge you VAT which ParcelForce (I assume) will notify you of by letter.
You can pay them over the 'phone but they will charge you an extra £13.50 Admin Fee.

Don't be surprised if Customs sit on your parcel for 5 days or so before they release it.

Also look out for FEDEX trying to muscle in on the act!! I had a delivery from the States that I paid ParcelForce £22 for duty and fees and then had Fedex demanding £16 for delivery charges. This went on for months until I asked them to produce a delivery note signed by me and then things went quiet. No word since 4 months ago.

yeah ive paid fees plenty of times.

I was just worried by the customs commissioner bit, sounded a bit important.

Funnily enough this parcel had a low value on, so will be interesting to see how much i get charged.

Status is sometimes confusing.
It seems that there is some kind of universal codes for various events, but they are translated differently.
Also different systems do not seem to show all events.
Polish EMS used to provide a lot of details, but it was recently "upgraded" :-/

Example:
Japanese EMS said "In Customs".
Old Polish EMS said something like "Received from abroad", "Entering Customs", "Inspected by Customs" and then even "Forwarded to Post Office XYZ".
New one says only "In Customs - import".
