Thanks to Forum members I now have an update -
AND AN EXTREMELY RARE RMI NAVY COLT!RMI sold a number of MGC 1851 Navy Colts:
a) A standard Colt - which is quite rare these days! Francky has one for sale at over US$1000 (a golden finish)
b) A "deluxe" version - which featured an engraved cylinder depicting a naval battle between Texas & Mexico at the Battle of Campecehe. The original engraving was done by W. L. Ormsby of New York;
[Foot note: one of my fellow re-enactors is Warren Ormsby-Green: Master armourer to the Lord of the Rings movies made in NZ: the Ormsby's ancestors were originally Vikings (Orms) who settle in England and have a colourful history in England & Ireland. W.L. Ormsby was a bank note engraver in NY]
and
c) A KIT SET that included a bottle of Bluing compound to finish the replica!
{apologies for the quality of the document photo - best I could do with what I have}My second Navy Colt as it arrivedA real steel Colt cylinder and a computer graphic from the web. And a photo of my re-blued cylinder swapped out onto my earlier blued Navy frame.An assemblage of 1951 Navy Colt paraphernalia !
Now I have to decide what to do with the un-blued colt: do I re-blue it OR remove the bluing from the cylinder and polish it ????
Either way, I feel very lucky to have these in my collection now!
