Yes, to use real deal mags in a Marushin AR-15 you have to do some modifications:
Either you enlarge the notch of the magazine, so it can snap in, or you have to remove some material off the Marushin magazine catch. I did the last, because it is more practical:
Furthermore I had to remove some material on the top of the real deal mag, otherwise it touches the bolt and can’t snap in. Also the mag spring seems strong and causes much friction.
The main problem when using real deal mags is the lack of the (curved) spacer and an angled ramp for proper feeding. Machining such parts is time consuming.
I think the mentioned blank ammo mags will not work out of the box and without some slightly modifications (including sandblasting and a new paint job).
BTW: SafeTac offers two versions: One for US M200 blank ammo (those cartridges have a total length of 48.3 mm) and one for German DM18 blank rounds, which are 49.3 mm long.
For comparison: Marushin .223 cartridges have a length around 45.3 mm; so the shells will have some play inside such a blank round mag.
Also, when you watch closely, the spacer of the SafeTac mag does not have an angular ramp like the Marushin mags. I think there is no need for such a ramp because of the fact that .223 blank ammo is rounded on its top unlike the Marushin brass shells.

These could be well worth trying
Ok, 20 US bucks for such a mag is not the end of the world, but shipping costs to my destination is 30 USD. 50 in total + fable tax for the pursecutters.
