Marushin UZI...

To be played at Maximum Volume... Go On... Right Up...

[b]8Ace's steel bolt transformed this into a gun that WORKS...

Great job Cerwyn & Carol!
Do I hear that I might want to save my money on this one unless I can get a good bolt?
How about the (very rare) kit? Are the issues the same?
Thanks again for all your hard work.

Thanks again guys!

I've been determined to get that particular video done as I'd spent a lot of time tweaking and setting my UZI up.

8Ace's steel bolt definately sorted the gun out. The original zinc bolt had worn out. Being a soft metal, the boltface had flattened enough to drop cartridges during extraction causing jamming and failed ejection.
The new bolt has a good face so holds the rounds firmly enough...

The only reasons Carol didn't manage one long continuous burst to empty a mag full with the new bolt were a faulty cap and the fact she was almost choking in all the smoke! Marushin UZI Icon_wink

Rick, if you take a look at http://www.mp40modelguns.com/forum2/viewtopic.php?t=2390 you'll see photos of the worn out zinc bolt and this next video shows how my UZI did work. Bear in mind that the 4 or 5 shot burst in the video was the only burst it managed out of a mag with 30rds in it! Editing just makes it look like it fires more!

As for saving your money, personally speaking and being new to the model gun hobby, I've found few models actually work faultlessly "out of the Box". There are some, yes that do, my Marushin MP40 has never let me down (yet), my MGCUK Steel Sten are two out of my entire collection.
But things will wear out, just like any mechanical device.
Maintainance is crucial, simple things like springs need looking after and renewing from time to time.

It's unfortunate that zinc alloys and brittle plastics are used as they're not very resilient but Japan won't allow steel to be used toi manufacture model guns.
I think I'm right in saying that we've all had to accept that most modelguns are about the best the manufacturers can produce within their Laws but if we want them firing well and reliably we've got to put in some work and money to maintain and modify where necessary.

A new zinc bolt, if I could have found one, might have got my UZI firing well again but it'll be worn out in no time. A steel bolt shouldn't wear out!.

The very rare models may not have a source of spare parts so we need to make them ourselves or, hope that Forum members have the ability and skills to make them for us.

If this forum ever folds (Perish the thought) I for one would be completely lost Marushin UZI Icon_eek

Thanks Claymore, hopefully we can video 2 guns firing at once when you come over eh?

Hey, one thing I wasn't quite able to catch for the UZI vid was Carol's closing comments...

"There, it's empty now... God, the things I do for a bit of Corrie!" Marushin UZI Icon_rolleyes Marushin UZI Icon_biggrin

For any that won't know, Corrie is a crappy TV Soap Opera that women like to watch... Marushin UZI Icon_biggrin

Hiya 8Ace, it's taken me awhile to get that video sorted (Carol prefers watching Corrie and bloody Emmerdale lately (God Help Us) but as you can see your new bolt transformed my UZI.
I'm really grateful to you mate. Compare the original vid I did to this new one... your Bolt is all that's changed.

Credit where it's due 'Ace, I'm sorry I took so long!

Starting to think about a compilation now that I've a few guns working properly!

Hm... I've got one that's old and jams all the time, but I've no idea if the bolt's what's causing it. How hard was it to switch out the bolt?

Hi fightdesigner!

It's an easy job please take a look at my Guides...

https://mp40modelguns.forumotion.net/modelgun-stripping-and-rebuild-guides-f12/marushin-uzi-basic-strip-down-guide-t14.htm (Strip Down)

https://mp40modelguns.forumotion.net/modelgun-stripping-and-rebuild-guides-f12/marushin-uzi-basic-reassembly-guide-t15.htm (Reassembly)

https://mp40modelguns.forumotion.net/modelgun-problems-f5/marushin-uzi-basic-troubleshooting-guide-t9.htm (Troubleshooting)

https://mp40modelguns.forumotion.net/modelgun-cleaning-guides-f11/marushin-uzi-basic-parts-inspection-guide-t33.htm (Parts Inspection)

https://mp40modelguns.forumotion.net/modelgun-cleaning-guides-f11/marushin-uzi-basic-clean-lubrication-guide-t34.htm (Clean & Lubrication Guide)

Hopefully these will show you how to remove and replace the bolt, and what to look for when inspecting the bolt. If you look at the photos of my old zinc bolt, wear doesn't look that bad at first glance but it was bad enough to cause conbstant jamming as the cartridges would fall out of the bolt before hitting the ejector.

If you think the Guides have missed anything, let me know so I can correct them please?
